Wired connectivity is usually preferred for its stability, speed, and reliability, but there are times when site conditions or access limitations will make a wired connection cost prohibitive. Running conduit across a roadway, a waterway, or through a building you don't own can be expensive or impossible. In cases like this, TCI can design and implement a fully wireless, line-of-sight data connection that delivers wired-quality performance without the infrastructure cost.
These connections are common in campus environments, between buildings separated by parking lots or roads, and wherever infrastructure access is limited. Line-of-sight wireless is affordable and can provide highly reliable connectivity at speeds of up to 10 Gbps of throughput to support critical applications and users.

What's the difference between CAT 6 and CAT 7 cabling?
CAT 6 supports speeds up to 1 Gbps at distances up to 100 meters and is the most common standard for business network cabling today. CAT 7 supports up to 10 Gbps over the same distance with better shielding to reduce interference — making it the right choice for environments with high electrical interference, data centers, or applications requiring higher bandwidth. For most office environments, CAT 6 is sufficient and cost-effective. TCI will recommend the right standard for your specific use case during the site assessment.
When do I need fiber optic instead of copper cabling?
Fiber is the right choice when cable runs exceed 300 meters — the maximum reliable distance for copper — or when you need to connect buildings across a campus or parking lot. Fiber is also preferred in environments with high electrical interference (manufacturing, industrial), where security is critical (fiber can't be tapped as easily as copper), or when you need future-proof bandwidth headroom for demanding applications. TCI installs both and recommends the right medium based on your environment and requirements.
Can TCI cable a building that's already occupied — without major disruption?
Yes. TCI regularly performs cabling work in occupied offices, schools, and facilities — scheduling work after hours, in phases, or around specific operational constraints. We come prepared with the right tools, protection, and cleanup plan so your business stays operational and your space stays professional-looking throughout the project.
What does a structured cabling installation include?
A TCI structured cabling installation includes site assessment and design, cable routing and installation, termination at wall plates and patch panels, testing and certification of every run, cable labeling at both ends, a complete port map and documentation package, and IT closet organization and cable management. We don't consider a job done until it's clean, labeled, tested, and documented.
Do I need new cabling if I'm switching to a cloud VoIP phone system?
Not necessarily — it depends on what cabling is already in place. Modern cloud VoIP phones use IP and are powered by PoE over CAT 5e, CAT 6, or CAT 7 cabling. If your building already has CAT 5e or better in good condition, it may work fine. TCI assesses your existing cabling during any VoIP deployment and identifies runs that need replacement.
