What Is Cloud Computing?
These days we hear a lot about “the cloud” when technology comes up in everyday conversation. For some, it’s an easily understood function of modern computing. For others, its wholly unknown—a specter of technology. Simply put, cloud computing is the internet, and operating through “the cloud” is just another way to store and access data. Instead of storing data on a standard disc drive, it’s stored on the internet—a toolbox of infinite growth.
Because so many devices feature internet access, more and more businesses are turning to cloud computing to increase efficiency. Why? It allows greater, quicker access to information, it allows for collaboration across time zones, it’s scalable, and best of all: it’s affordable.
Tidewater Physicians Multispecialty Group (TPMG) has been a TCI client for a long time, relying on our expertise for telecommunication solutions, paging, cabling, and connectivity for more than two decades.
When it came time to improve their technology and bring their business up-to-date, they turned to TCI once again for help upgrading to EvolveIP—a cloud-based communications platform that would help streamline their day-to-day activities across 60+ locations throughout the greater Tidewater, Virginia region.

TPMG, after reviewing several premier hosted providers TCI brought to the table that could meet their needs, chose EvolveIP for a few key reasons. Beyond their comprehensive suite of UC offerings, a robust contact center solution for the billing department and the SDWAN solution for network redundancy, it was EvolveIP’s ability to provide them through a single company, under a single fully integrated solution. The proverbial “Single throat to choke”!
The Road Ahead/ Mission Accomplished
Over the past 18 months TCI and Evolve IP rolled out the UC & SDWAN solutions to over 25 plus TPMG offices with more office coming online monthly. The UC solutions have aided office communications through contact center queues to better handle patient call flows during business hours and UC mobile apps to address patient calls after hours.
With the use of SDWAN offices are not experiencing the down times because of internet failures.
As more offices come online with Evolve IP inter-office communications are “evolving” to better serve patients. Patient calls can easily be move between offices, from primary care to specialist offices or to billing, giving them faster service and answers.
And the Results?
By the end of the project, TCI and EvolveIP turned TPMG into a modern-day marvel, becoming a cutting-edge healthcare organization powered by cutting-edge cloud computing. Ultimately, these changes allowed TPMG to better connect with and serve their patients.
Beyond that, thanks to his leadership in the effort, TPMG’s very own Chief Information Officer Brett Brickey was named to EvolveIP’s Customer Advisory Council—allowing him to advocate for future EvolveIP clients and their respective needs.
